[is kat] pfff, don't worry. I've done a sentance or two for a post before. :P If not much is required because you're waiting for more of a cue from the other players, then don't post much. Otherwise you're just putting in unnecessary filler.

I auto'd them to the inn, figured that way it'd give kori and derin something new to do. :P Lemme know if you have any issues with it, fay.

...

That escalated really quickly.

Well now I have no idea how to save Saruna & Derin. (I wasn't prepared for somebody being so familiar with the binding method used on Derin and seeing through the bracelet.) And I liked my plan too. :( I guess it's a blessing that the bar is so empty, but... come ON. Give us something to work with here.

Faya, what's your plan for getting all the characters out alive and secrets intact? We can't very well kill a battlemage.

Saruna was already sitting in the chair. D:

I also have to question why Melagone would hurt the captive when the captive has made no aggressive motions? There is no reason why he would do that, especially risking the displeasure of the judges and Belatucadrus. Trust me, no battlemage would do anything to get punished or bring displeasure from their masters, and they can be reasonable people. :P Melagone can be a great antagonist without going batshit crazy on our peoples, especially in a citizen's bar where the proprietor has done nothing wrong.

Too, the judge and *cough* certain members of govt might want to study Derin. They would not be pleased if the subject at hand was damaged irreparably before they had the chance to pass judgement, and get their grubby hands on her. Melagone would know that very well.

Crap I'm sorry guys I haven't been keeping up with this thread while working on the other one. My bad on the typo Kat - as for Mela, he's acting like a complete idiot because he's getting power-hungry. You can only be under someone's thumb for so long before you want more power than that person... I can only imagine how long Mela's been under what-his-face's thumb. Then to be sent to protect some sniveling newbie and capture two fools who are only suspected of using magic, that had to suck ass... then he finds out Derin's a demon - he kills the demon he gets recognition, he gets power. At least that his line of thinking, he's probably ignored the whole 'we wanna seeeeee' thing and Fay's not on his list of 'need to protect' sooo from what I can guess he doesn't give a fuck.

Here's some of my thoughts on Melagone. [edit: I just realized you guys probably don't know about Bela] Okay, so here's how things stand: Belatucadrus is THE most powerful person in Marn. While he lives in Shim no one but the highest level of officials, battlemages, and Bela's toys know about him. He is used to keep the Battlemages in line. NO ONE in the battlemages holds a candle to Bela. Melagone wouldn't dare cross Bela or do anything to be brought to his attention in a negative light. Bela is pretty much the bogeyman. He gets what he wants, and he punishes people who get in his way.

Bela is very creative when it comes to punishment, and not in a good way.

Bela likes to have fun with unusual people. He would want to have fun with Derin (ie, experiment on her) should her existence as a demon be discovered.

Ideas about melagone:

-Been with battlemages for a long time, tends to be placed on important assignments.
-Used to leading, or being put in an advisory position.
- Very intelligent, tends to be impatient with others who do not follow his thought processes.
-Becomes cranky and sullen when assigned things he feels are beneath him.
-arrogant in terms of him being used to being right

Possible recent history:

- His arrogance has put him on a bit of a strain with some of his peers, and after his demeanor caused an issue during one of his assignments he was sent to work with Fay despite the case being of a rather minor detail as punishment for his misdemeanor.

So, perhaps his recent frustration and humiliation is causing him to act out in a nasty manner and throw his weight around. Rather than take responsibility for his actions, he is blaming Saruna and Derin (or just taking it out on them). So, perhaps he intends to do whatever he can to make sure they rot in jail? He wouldn't risk his own hide just to push them around, but he would try to make himself look good.

If he was just a power junkie I could see him trying to kill Derin to get recognition, but you have to remember that he is a very intelligent man. He is more than capable of figuring out the results of his actions, and how he would be regarded should he kill a suspect (it would not be well received).

Too, they are in a bar, there is at least one witness (kori). No battlemage is poor enough of a magic user to 'accidentally' kill a witness or a fellow guard, so he would be unable to get rid of kori or fay should even the idea of killing them cross his mind. Even if he claims Kori and Fay tried to kill him, he would be put under investigation. He wouldn't want that.

What do you guys think?

ANOTHER EDIT LOL

Okay, I was wrong. Battlemages are allowed to injure a suspect before bringing them before a judge. So Mel can strike down either woman without fear of reprimand, but not kill. He would, however, try to keep them coherent enough to be questioned.

Second thing: Meesh mentioned that a battlemage wouldn't want to get too powerful, as Bela might consider them dangerous and kill them just cuz. She also said battlemages tend to have emotional/mental issues due to the torture bela puts them through.

He does seem a little violent to be an appropriate guard. He's facing two women who don't have any magic and aren't resisting. (Still not sure how to get everyone out of this alive...)

(this is saruna) I'm rather in favor of editing the post so he doesn't attack either of them with such an intent to kill, which is kinda what I was leaning towards in my post above; that he knows if he does something like that Bela will kick his ass and then probably do something really horrible to him.

And the Judge will be displeased he doesn't get the chance to interrogate them.

My main idea for Mela's actions were not to kill anyone - that'd be stupid and against the rules. More what Mela wants is to prove he has the upperhand and that he's the most powerful of the group that's currently present. What you said makes sense Kat. Sooo Imma make Mela stop his stupid spell, though not after weakening Derin a bit - I don't think he's worried about Kori for some stupid reason. I'll edit though :D if that's what you want ^^

I still kinda want to bash him, but he's real powerful, all I am is muscle, so I'll see how this goes before we really see what to do.

Derin's current plan is to try to get away and resort straight to her usual plan B. Saruna, I don't think we can get a happily ever after out of this, not with this development. :(

I actually was kinda looking forward to getting Saruna tortured by the judge. >>

She still can -- Derin sure as hell isn't going back for her. I had nice plans to solve all of Derin's immediate problems and everything. Damn magic-sensing battlemage.

Ah well, time to try escape.

As a totally unrelated side note... how far from the Ofriyu Mar is the Red Chalice?
