That's one of the best excuses I've ever heard hehe. No stress whatsoever.

Sorry for the puny post, but Zou didn't have much to say, and I hate writing things just to fill up space. It makes the story long and dull.

Yes sorry, the week got away from me... not the greatest post on my part either, but at least it should stimulate some response ;)

Sorry, I thought I posted that it wouldn't make sense for Aura to say anything at this point, as she wants to hear the conversation, and I'm not going to make a post where her head swivels back and forth like she's watching a tennis match. I'll interject when appropriate if she has a comment while you guys have the conversation.

That means Zou is up. Like I said, I thought I had posted this a week or so ago.

Sorry. :(

No sweat. Before I post, I want to know more about the book, or rather, I want to know exactly how much Zou is likely to know about it.

Oh the details.... bothersome details...

The basis of Naris's magic is in the words of the book she found. Now I understand that most of the magic people have been writing is inborn, innate ability, but I figured that maybe it would be a nice change of pace to have a rune-reader wizard type. I haven't given too much thought into the history of the book, but that sounds like a good angle to explore sometime.

ok, I'm guessing unless the runes in the book are really obscure and secret, Zou would probably be able to figure out where they're from, and even who wrote the book maybe. He might be familiar with the magic system, at least in theory, or he might even recognize the triangle symbol on the front?

The reason I hesitate is because I want to respond in character, but I don't want to make up a bunch of stuff about the book that you don't agree with. Is it cool if I just come up with a bunch of jazz?

Sure... you know it might be fitting for the book to be positively ancient, maybe right before or after the Changer war when magic wasn't so prevalent. I certainly don't mind you taking liberties with it.

Aura, i realized while i was writing my post today that naris and kol have a good potential of stealing the story away from what originally was supposed to be yours, and trying to find a way home for Aura. I very much apologize and this was not my intent- i think we should try to guide the story in the direction of zou enlisting the pair's help in helping Aura's "quest" before he will help Naris find out more about the books of magic she has. Joe?

yeah, or maybe we can tie the two together somehow.

I'm posting right away, since I suppose Aura would likely react to magic being used in front of her.

As for my storyline, it's going to take some time before she actually gets home, and she's already been here for a month or so, just not in Marn. I don't plan on allowing her to get home all that easily. ;)

shit, you know i completely forgot about the whole magic null thing, i got WAAAAY too carried away in my posting. Well, hmmm I think i could write it off as the fact that she's performing a spell, not really doing something inherently magical. the words and intonations are the key to this wizardry, not something inherently tied to the astral plane...

I dunno, any thoughts?

Actually, any spell in the vicinity of Aura will work. Unlike her name, the magic null doesn't have an aura (area) effect.

Magic will only stop working if it touches her. Something cast AT her will have no effect. Now, if a fireball sets a building on fire, the fire will still harm her, but the fireball itself won't. If Aura were to reach out and touch the cup, the spell would stop instantly, and the cup would drop to the table (and likely to the floor and/or shatter). Which in itself could be fun.

If anyone has ever read the Terry Goodkind Sword of Truth series, Aura is kind of like the 'pristinely ungifted' people in the 7th & 8th books, Pillars of Creation & Naked Empire. (If you haven't read them, I suggest you do. Excellent series!) Also, I only recently read these books, and I had thought up Aura before then. Those books give a better description than I could as to how she interacts with magic.

Magic doesn't affect her, but if magic were to, say, push a boulder from a cliff onto her, she'd still die. She also sees magic differently than most people would. Where a fireball coming at most people would appear as a big ball of flaming death, Aura would see it as little more than a misty, see-through ball that looks like it has flames on it.

I can't describe it any better than that. And this is a much larger post than I meant it to be. Yay, first thing in the morning ramblings!

I assumed the floors are wooden, not carpeted, Zou?

If not, I can make the slight adjustments to my post. They won't be reaction changing, but for the sake of consistency, I'll change them, even if it's after your next post. Don't wait on my need to change it for your post.

Hee hee, though I don't think you will anyway. :P
