1811 Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue by Francis Grose -

Herein you may learn terms such as
ABEL-WACKETS: Blows given on the palm of the hand with a twisted handkerchief, instead of a ferula; a jocular punishment among seamen, who sometimes play at cards for wackets, the loser suffering as many strokes as he has lost games.
and
BASTARDLY GULLION: A bastard's bastard.
not to mention
THREE-PENNY UPRIGHT: A retailer of love, who, for the sum mentioned, dispenses her favours standing against a wall.
but you should really go take a look. It is brilliant.

Inspiration and reference material for Corey and I as we slowly work on Bataar and Abagha.
---Steppes Tradition: Hunting with Eagles---
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunting_with_eagles
see
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Re644qgnCtw to appreciate how truly fucking epic that can be.
I thought it was a neat idea when I picked an eagle hunter for Abagha's profile pic, but if the real world reality is THAT epic, I think we can jump the shark with this, Corey.
In some of those fights, the eagle is using its wings like we would elbows, providing a platform to deliver powerful kicks while on the back. The wolf knocks it around, and it still gets back in the air, with absolutely no fucks given.
For a less epic, more 'Training wheels still on' level -

I've got a bunch of ideas whirling around my head for eagles in the Xiongnu Steppes of Tian Xia as a result.

I just came across this interesting "evolutionary tree of religion" image and thought it might be useful, especially with this being an alternate history setting and all.
