I was thinking the same thing. The title, the subtitle and Jess's first post (although it did not give any spoilers) gave enough warnings that there would be spoilers.

Ehem, Calico. I hated that retarded epilogue. For someone who gave so much information on her character, the woman gave nothing. Oh look, Neville's a teacher. How satisfying?

Do we even know the kid's ages? How long everyone's been married? Their careers? No. We know they

1. had kids

2. Harry is still famous

3. Profit!

There's nothing wrong with expecting more from someone who's proven, time and again, that she can do better.

She does let us down in almost every book in one way or another though, so I am not too arsed about the epilogue. I think she wanted more of a happy ending, whilst making an opening for a possible line of sequels.

Albus is around 11, he must be if he is going to Hogwarts for the first time, but you are right, I did wonder what jobs they had, how long they had been married, etc etc. Maybe she is teasing and will answer these questions in future books, but she is not totally committing herself?

She actually answered a bit of it in an interview, including why so little information was included. (Personally, I think she could have found a happy medium, but I get the reasoning.)

Ok, I'm gonna be the first to say it, and maybe make an enemy or two: JK's strength is not poetry, it is descriptive writing. Hence why the epilogue feels so awkward and lacking. She made a mistake, and I honestly believe that her intention failed.

When thousands of people are feeling let down, you have failed your mission. She shouldn't have ended it the way she did, and now she's getting the backlash from this error.

Apologies to anyone who loved the ending. It's not the worst writing ever, but you can clearly tell that poetic style is not her strength.

I'm waiting to see if some rabid fan will start a petition for a revision. Wouldn't that be hilarious?

PS Ming, we don't need spoiler tags 'cause we're not nearly as gianormous as the Something Awful forums. And besides, people on there bought ads featuring spoilers for the book. Some of which were wrong, but it was still funny.

In my early years. Since then, I've switched to Dean Koontz... although now I read almost exclusively fantasy novels, with a smattering of Koontz, Anne Rice, and science/political books.
